Internet Safety Tips
Heartland
National Bank is committed to ensure your
safety and the confidentiality of your
information. Here are a few safety tips when
using the internet:
-
Look for
secure sites before conducting
business—look to make sure the web
address begins with https: and there is
a lock icon on the status bar. Both show
that the information is secure and
encrypted.
-
Be wary of
emails—many emails warn that you will be
locked out of a site unless you submit
confidential information to verify your
account. This information can include
user names, passwords, social security
numbers or account numbers. NEVER SUBMIT
THIS INFORMATION. Legitimate sites will
never ask you to provide this
information through an email. If you are
unsure, contact your vendor using a
number not published in the email to
ensure validity.
-
Be wary of
identity theft—keep a close eye on your
bank account activity and remember to
shred all unused checks, bills and
statements to prevent unauthorized use.
-
Look out
for “advance-fee” demands—be careful of
any online seller that wants you to send
checks or money orders to a post office
box before you receive goods or services
you’ve been promised.
These are only
a few tips to help keep you safe on the
internet. Remember, if it’s too good to be
true, it probably is. If you have any
questions about internet security, feel free
to contact any of our
offices.
